Training

Pre-season

On 29 June Jimmy Ramage will be organising a run in Corstorphine woods. All interested please meet at the Capital Hotel car park at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

Venues for 2010/11

A message from Association Manager Martin Clark

Training for 2010/11 will take place at
  • Peffermill, Edinburgh
  • Deans High School, Livingston
  • Tweedbank Sports Centre, Galashiels

Edinburgh Area

Training will take place at the Edinburgh University Playing Fields at Peffermill.

Training will commence at 7pm (sharp) under the overall guidance of Jimmy Ramage. However as the first evening (6th July) clashes with the semi-final of the World Cup, it has been arranged that we can start at the earlier time of 6.15pm.

It is planned to operate with two groups.

Group 1: Will consist of all senior list officials and any others who feel they can comfortably keep pace with the programme set.

Group 2: This will allow for those who are maybe new to a stiff training regime, or possibly recovering from injury, to benefit from a slightly less demanding programme. The programme set will be under the ultimate guidance of Jimmy.

There will be ongoing liaison between both groups to ensure the programme is of an appropriate level for those attending to maintain the highest standard of fitness possible.

Training, in general, will be monitored by both Jimmy and me on a weekly basis, with the ultimate aim being to ensure we have as many training in group 1 as we possibly can.

As an alternative, the West Lothian venue (details below) will be available, so if for whatever reason you may feel it appropriate to attend there please feel free to do so. As all listed officials are too well aware, training is mandatory, therefore if I am trying to deliver I hope you would agree that to ask for your 100% support is not asking too much.

I plan to be in attendance all training sessions, alternating between both areas (unless appointed to a fixture). This also will allow for close communication and the opportunity for you to discuss with me any issues you may have.

West Lothian Area

Training will commence on the 6th July @ 6.15, albeit as Brian Sloan will be on holiday that week, alternative arrangements will be made. Thereafter training will commence @ 7pm under the guidance of Brian and will take place @ Deans Community High School (Livingston).

In order to align with the training regime in Edinburgh, we will attempt to split the group (If required). However, this will be at the discretion of the trainer and will in essence surround such matters as the actual number in attendance and various fitness levels etc.

This has venue has been booked for an initial 10 week period and further details for the rest of the season will be made available when possible.

Borders Area

The above changes do not really affect those who have until now trained in the borders. However, if any member domiciled in that area just happens to find themselves in the vicinity of one of the above venues, I can assure them they will be made extremely welcome.

Season 2011/12

There will no doubt be a number of questions which will emanate from this communication and equally some immediate observations, possibly surrounding the fact that the above decisions are of a retrograde nature. Nevertheless, I can assure you that I will try my best to manage things for you, albeit I take due cognisance of the fact that I may not always succeed in satisfying everyone all the time.

On a slightly different note, I am taking this opportunity to provide you with a “heads up” regarding the arrangements relating to the fitness test dates etc.

It is intended to secure a suitable location such as Dalkeith or Saughton etc (on a normal training night but not a Sunday if I can possibly avoid it) to complete this a few times during the year. Those who cannot attend for whatever reason (injury etc) will still have the benefit of the use of the facilities at Peffermill & West Lothian.

I hope you will all agree that as we have purchased all the equipment, the more we actually take the test, the more beneficial for all concerned.
